French study concludes link between Actos & bladder cancer
A study conducted by the French Medicines Agency recently found that patients with prolonged exposure to Actos may be at an increased risk of bladder cancer. The study, which began in March 2011, examined cancer rates in 155,000 people who took Actos from 2006 to 2009.

Following this announcement, the Agency prohibited French doctors from prescribing Actos, and advised patients currently using the drug to consult their doctors. Soon after the announcement, Germany followed suit, also banning Actos. More recently, Britain issued an Actos safety update. These measures have prompted some in the United States to call for an Actos recall, although no such action has taken place.
