Takeda’s Annual Profits Forecast Falls
POSTED BY
Claire Choo

Actos maker Takeda Pharmaceuticals slashed its yearly profit forecast by 32% today, according to Bloomberg and Reuters. The readjustment comes after the company’s $13.7 billion buyout of the Swiss pharmaceutical company Nycomed. The company also pointed to strong yen and a drop in Actos sales as a reason for the projected loss in profits.

Despite noting that the greatest problem with the company’s revenue flow was a stronger yen, others have pointed out that sales of Actos, one of Takeda’s most popular products, has taken a 13 percent hit. One Takeda executive mentioned the lessening of demand since the drug was linked to bladder cancer.

As ongoing Actos lawsuits run their course and publicity of the cases grow, it would not be surprising to see more changes at Takeda.
