We have reached a proposed settlement with Chrysler to resolve the TIPM litigation, Velasco et al. v. Chrysler Group LLC, Case No. 2:13-cv-08080. The settlement includes:
- Free fuel pump relay repairs to the owners of 2011, 2012, and 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos
- An extended warranty on the fuel pump relay repair itself, to 7 years from the vehicle’s original sale date or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first
- Reimbursement for TIPM replacements, diagnosis, rental car expenses, and unnecessary repairs done in an attempt to fix a non-start or stall condition (batteries, fuel pumps, alternators, WIN modules, etc.) that were reasonably incurred as a result of a vehicle’s TIPM fuel pump relay failure.
Reimbursement Check List
- Be sure that all reimbursement requests include your current name, address, telephone number, and the vehicle identification number (VIN) of your vehicle.
- Provide proof of payment for repairs and related expenses (original or copies), or:
- If you cannot provide a proof of payment and your vehicle was repaired at an authorized Chrysler, Dodge, and/or Jeep dealership, provide a statement indicating the name and address of the dealership and date of the repair.
- Sign and date your reimbursement request.
- Send a letter requesting reimbursement and a copy of all documents identified above to:

Amended Complaint Filed
In November 2013, Girard Gibbs and co-counsel filed a class action lawsuit against Chrysler, and in May 2014, Plaintiffs filed an amended complaint. The lawsuit alleges that some Chrysler vehicles are equipped with a defective Totally Integrated Power Module, or TIPM. The lawsuit alleges that the defective TIPM can cause problems starting the vehicle and stalling. In addition, the lawsuit alleges that the TIPM can prevent the fuel pump from shutting off properly, cause headlights and taillights to shut off, and can cause random and uncontrollable activity of the horn, windshield wipers, alarm system, door locks, and airbags.
Chrysler’s Motion to Dismiss
In May 2014, Chrysler filed a motion to dismiss, asking the court to end the lawsuit altogether in its favor. We opposed Chrysler’s motion, and the court heard oral argument on July 28, 2014. On August 22, 2014, the court issued a ruling on the motion, mostly in our favor, although the court also dismissed two claims—under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act and the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. The order allows Plaintiffs to move forward with their claims under California, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts and Missouri consumer protection laws.
