What is Pioglitazone?
Pioglitazone is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes, and is marketed and trademarked in the United States, UK, and Germany as Actos. It is also the active ingredient in other medications used to treat type 2 diabetes, including Actoplus Met and Duetact.
According to Actos' website, Pioglitazone works by increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin, a natural substance that helps control blood sugar levels. Pioglitazone is not used to treat type 1 diabetes, which is a condition in which the body does not produce insulin.
