Update: Girard Gibbs Appointed Co-Lead Counsel in Royal Bank of Scotland Class Action Lawsuit
On May 6, 2009, Honorable Deborah A. Batts of the Southern District of New York issued an order consolidating ten related class action lawsuits filed on behalf of Royal Bank of Scotland investors and appointing the Freeman Group as Co-Lead Plaintiff on behalf of a putative class of investors who held Non-cumulative Dollar Preference Shares (Preferred Share Group). The Court also approved the Freeman Group’s selection of Girard Gibbs LLP to serve as Lead Counsel for the Preferred Share Group.. [...]

Class Certification Granted in the Mercedes-Benz Tele Aid System Class Action
On April 27, 2009, the Honorable Dickinson R. Debevoise of the District of New Jersey issued an order granting plaintiffs' motion for class certification in the In re Mercedes-Benz Tele Aid Contract Litigation. The class is defined as: consumers who purchased or leased a Mercedes-Benz vehicle equipped with an analog-only Tele Aid system after August 8, 2002, and either (1) subscribed to the Tele Aid service until they were informed that such service would be discontinued at the end of 2007; or (2) purchased an upgrade to digital equipment... Auction Rate Securities Class Action Lawsuits
Girard Gibbs has filed class action lawsuits alleging securities fraud in connection with the sail of auction rate securities against thirteen major broker-dealers. These include UBS, Wachovia, Merrill Lynch, Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan Chase, TD Ameritrade, Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, Oppenheimer, E*Trade, RBC Dain Rauscher among others. Nationwide Settlement Reached in GM/Dex-Cool Class Action Lawsuit
On March 20, 2008 the California Superior Court granted prelimnary approval to the class action settlement reached with General Motors in the GM/Dex-Cool class action lawsuit. The settlement affects people who purchased or leased a "covered vehicle" anywhere in the United States other than Missouri. A separate settlement has been reached for those who purchased or leased their vehicles in Missouri, which will offer the same benefits but will be separately approved by a Missouri court. [...]

Final Approval Granted for $100 Million Settlement
On July 13, 2007, U.S. District Judge Deborah A. Batts in hte Southern District of New York granted final approval to a $100 million settlement of the securities class action and related claims against American Express Financial Advisors. The settlement covers clients of ("AEFA) who purchased financial advisory services or financial advise (such as a financial plan) and/or mutual funds in the American Express family of mutual funds between March 10, 1999 and February 9, 2004. Girard Gibbs Appointed Liaison Counsel in TFT-LCD Antitrust Case
On July 10, 2007, Judge Illston appointed Girard Gibbs LLP as interim liaison counsel for the consolidated actions on behalf of direct purchaser plaintiffs. The complaint alleges that the manufacturers agreed to restrict the supply of TFT-LCDs in the market, causing persons and business who bought TFT-LCDs directly from the manufacturers to pay artificially inflated and non-competitive prices in violation of federal law.
