National Yaz and Yasmin Lawsuits Filed Across the Country

Hundreds of Yaz and Yasmin Side Effects Lawsuits filed Nationally

Hundreds of Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits have been filed across the United States. Most of these lawsuits have been filed in federal courts, and recently those lawsuits have been centralized in the Yaz Multi-District Litigation entitled In re: Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation. Other Yaz Lawsuits have been filed in state courts. There are now coordinated litigation proceedings for the Pennsylvania Yaz Lawsuits, California Yaz Lawsuits, and New Jersey Yaz Lawsuits, in addition to the Multi-District Litigation.

Women filing Yaz lawsuits have suffered injuries such as blood clots, pulmonary embolism, stroke, and gallbladder disease, as well as other Yaz side effects. Here are some examples of Yaz Lawsuits and what they are alleging:

Illinois Yaz Side Effects Lawsuit: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

An Illinois woman living in Chicago filed a lawsuit against the manufactures of Yaz after she allegedly suffered deep vein thrombosis in December 2007. The lawsuit explains that she had taken Yaz for a little less than year when she was hospitalized and diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a medical term for a blood clot. The lawsuit alleges that the manufactures of Yaz failed to adequately warn her about the serious health risks associated with the use of this birth control, and as a result, she has suffered significant harm, including pain and suffering.

Florida Yaz and Yasmin Side Effects Lawsuit: Gallbladder Injury

A Florida woman from Fort Lauderdale filed a lawsuit against the manufactures of Yaz and Yasmin after she allegedly suffered a gallbladder injury, which ultimately necessitated that her gallbladder be surgically removed in April 2009. The lawsuit alleges that her gallbladder injuries were sustained as a direct and proximate result of using Yaz , and that had she know of the increased risks of Yaz, she would not have used Yaz and would not have suffered this injury.

New York Yasmin Side Effects Lawsuit: Myocardial Infarction (heart attack)

A woman from New York recently filed a lawsuit against the manufacture of Yasmin after she allegedly suffered an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) after taking the birth control pill. The lawsuit alleges that she was hospitalized for approximately two weeks while undergoing treatment, and that she sustained severe and permanent injuries as a result of the manufacturing, promotion and sale of Yasmin.

California Yaz Side Effects Lawsuit: Pulmonary Embolism and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

A California woman filed a lawsuit against the manufactures of Yaz and Yasmin after she allegedly suffered deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs). The lawsuit states that she was prescribed and began using Yaz/Yasmin in 2006 and that as a direct and proximate use of using that birth control, she suffered a pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis and resulting injuries.

North Carolina Yaz Side Effects Lawsuit: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

A woman living in North Carolina recently filed a Yaz lawsuit after she allegedly suffered deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in January 2007. The lawsuit alleges that in addition to the conscious suffering caused by the deep vein thrombosis (DVT), this woman also suffered from the amputation of her leg below her right knee as a result of the DVT. The lawsuit alleges that had she or her health care providers known of the serious health risks associated with the use of Yaz, she would not have used Yaz and would not have suffered these injuries.

California Yaz Side Effects Lawsuit: Stroke

A California woman living in the Bay Area used Yaz birth control for about a month when she suffered a stroke which resulted in permanent brain damage. She filed her California Yaz Lawsuit in 2009, alleging that as a result of using Yaz, she sustained serious side effects resulting in ongoing physical pain, mental anguish and diminished enjoyment of life. Susan shared her Yaz story with a local new station.

Q: What are Yaz and Yasmin?

A: Yaz and Yasmin are prescription birth control pills. Yaz has also been indicated to treat symptoms of PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) as well as moderate acne. However, the FDA recently found that some of the Yaz advertisements were misleading and overstated the benefits of the pill. (See the FDA Yaz Warning Letters)

Q: What are the differences between Yaz and Yasmin?

A: Yaz and Yasmin are combination birth controls that use the hormones estrogen and progrestin. All three birth controls use the progestin hormone known as drospirenone, or drsp. Yasmin (generic Ocella) was the original birth control pill to use drospirenone. Yaz is similar to Yasmin and Ocella except that it uses less estrogen and uses a 24/4 day cycle, while Yasmin and Ocella are 21/7 day cycle birth contol pills.

Q: Who makes Yaz and Yasmin?

A: Yaz and Yasmin are manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals and originally developed by Berlex Laboratories, which is now owned by Bayer.
